Gay Reinhardt “James Harrison Allen,” email to Loma, sent October 22, 2002.

It has always been told that he jumped ship in San Francisco.

His grandaughter Thelma says that he used to tell the story, That He was a
favorite of the captain and when he would get in trouble the captain would take
him into his cabin and beat the bed while he (James) would yell. Then everyone
thought he was getting a whopping. He would have to stay in the cabin for a
few days so that the supposed bruises would go away.

Gay Reinhardt has possesion of certified copy of birth #BC 518609. She also
has certified copy of Marriage #MA749044.

Immigrated to the USA IN 1858.

Thelma, James' granddaughter, said that later in his life he had a difficult time talking. (Maybe he had a stroke?) When asked "How do you feel?" He would rub two fingers together and say "I feel with my fingers!"

When his son, John, would tell a story, John would turn to his Dad, James, and say, "Ain't that so, Pappy?" James would respond with, "Yes, John, but don't prove any more of your lies by me."

Thelma also told of a stool that James would sit his feet on and she would use the stool to climb up on his lap and light his pipe. Thelma described her grandfather as short and heavy.
