Short History-Remembrance
As told to Kerri 1/17/2013 by Chuck Peterson
Lena Allen McDaniel lived in Hardman, Morrow, Oregon. They farmed wheat there. They had a party line telephone for the whole town so when they made a call, they had to crank the phone. They would crank long and short combinations to get out correctly on the party line. One time, when Charles Peterson was in his teens, his family took the long drive out to Hardman. His mother, leaned out the window when she saw someone walking on the road and said, I'm Thelma McDaniel! Are you any kin to me? He said yes, meet me at Aunt Ethel's and that evening pretty much the whole town showed up. Hardman was almost a ghost town even then. In the 1950's.
